From print to digital success

DC Thomson

The Dundee-based publishing company DC Thomson commissioned Clock to help them create a digital strategy and brand destination for their flagship title, The Press and Journal. The print version of this Scottish newspaper, with six distinct localised editions daily, is immensely successful and DC Thomson wanted to mirror this success online without diminishing and cannibalising print sales.

Collaborative Design

Clock worked closely with The Press and Journal team to create a strong strategic direction for the newspaper’s digital incarnation. This included a new digital-first content strategy, the introduction of a metered paywall and the creation of a comprehensive visual language for the digital edition. As well as working on strategy, Clock was entrusted with the UX and design phases of the project, which resulted in the delivery of extensive style guides, assets and content strategy documents, so that DC Thomson could build and run a fully responsive newspaper website.

Delivering results

Clock’s work has helped The Press and Journal to reimagine their newsroom, enabling them to produce up to 500 new pieces of digital content daily, while continuing to create the daily print editions. The new digital site has resulted in substantial online growth.
